For me these are grown adults in a relationship not eight year old siblings messing around so I didn’t like reading it. Again, it may just be a me thing but the scene went from ‘trying to grab back a phone’ and ‘jumping on him to grab it since it’s out of her reach’ and ‘accidentally bumping her into a wall’ to ‘pulling his hair’ and ‘hands on his throat’ and ‘twisting his nipples’. Anyways that scene happens around 50ish% in the book. I know that wasn’t the intent of the author or that scene (it’s supposed to be funny/petty/childish/rough housing you did as a kid)…but I’m just… idk I didn’t like certain aspects of that scene. Especially because at one point her hands are literally around his neck and if the roles were reversed people would be calling it abuse instead of funny. For me it can easily crosses the line and can normalize abuse.

Now the fight came across more like the rough housing you do with a sibling but I personally get uncomfortable reading any type of physical altercations between couples. In this chapter the two end up “rough housing” with each other trying to grab a phone. Not sure if anyone else who read the book was as uncomfortable reading chapter eleven as I was….or if it was just a me thing. Plus the summary made me think that they were going to be playing pranks on each other more in the style of How to Lose a Guy in Ten Days type of annoying and obnoxious but instead it was more…petty or physical. I loved the concept about two people who fall out of love falling in love again, but it just fell flat to me. I can see why people would compare the two even though the plots aren’t similar.

While Naomi jumps to the conclusion that her fiancé is trying to kill her with flowers, Lucy jumps to the conclusion that Josh is a vampire. Both of their narrators have outlandishly hilarious thoughts and blow shit out of proportion. This book has been compared to THE HATING GAME and the writing style of Sarah and Sally are pretty similar. (This review contains minor spoilers for You Deserve Each Other)Įhhhhhhh yeah I’m in the minority of the people who didn’t enjoy this book. This is a lovers-to-enemies-to-friends-to-lovers rom-com. But somehow in the process Naomi realizes she is having fun with the person she least expects to: her fiancé. So the two start to try to drive the other one to leave.

The only problem? Who ever calls off the big day must heft over the big bill. Naomi and Nicholas want to break off their engagement.
